Our History

Alcom has been in business since 1983. Its founder, Al Read had worked for Motorola as a salesman for several years prior.  When the opportunity to own a Motorola two-way radio dealership presented itself Al was one of the first in Canada to step forward.  He invested, worked hard, built an organization and a reputation based on integrity and quality of service – and the rest is a successful history.

In late 2009, Al made the decision to retire from the business and Alcom was acquired by Garry Smith.  As President of Alcom, Garry brings extensive experience working with the leading telecommunication industry organizations throughout North America, Western Europe and Australia.  He has also worked with the global leaders in IT technology – providing him with an integrated solutions approach to solving customer operations issues. 

Several key members of our business management team average more than 14 years experience with Alcom, including: our General Manager – Ken Young, our Service Manager – Ken Eastveld, the manager of our radio rental business – Danielle Burr, and our business office manager – Kathie Doner.  All of our sales, service and support team members are trained and certified in their respective areas of the business.

Alcom is well positioned for the next evolution in the marketplace – enabling the mobile workforce. Our new products include: wireless data software applications, mobile computing, wireless broadband networks, asset tracking, and remote video surveillance/security. Motorola defines this integrated solution capability as “Delivering the Enterprise Anywhere”.
